Dua Lipa's Kosovo

How a culture rebuilds its identity through food, music … and love.

Episode Concept · In Development

Every wine is a snapshot of a place and a time: the soil, the climate, the knowledge of the land, all of it ends up in the glass. Kosovo is the scene for one of the most dramatic terroir stories on earth. Before the war it was among Yugoslavia's great wine regions; in 1989 it shipped forty million liters to Germany alone. The conflict didn't only displace people; it tore out vineyards and severed the generational knowledge a wine culture needs to exist. Today, grape by grape, dish by dish, note by note, Kosovo is rebuilding its identity from the soil up.

Dua Lipa has spoken about Kosovo's politics, its youth, its independence.

No one has asked her what it tastes like.

The Story

Where her family finds its bread and coffee, its olive oil and honey; which growers, chefs, and musicians the world hasn't met yet. During the 2025 Sunny Hill Festival she received Kosovan citizenship: “It completes the duality I have always had within.” That duality is the invitation: the global artist and the Kosovar daughter, the same person, talking about what makes Kosovo home.

Jon Rimmerman has spent thirty years finding the stories the world didn't know it was missing: in cellars, at tables, in the rooms where things are made. As founder of Garagiste, he built the largest audience in wine on exactly this instinct. He'd bring the history, the terroir, the context; the conversation we'd build together, around the stories she most wants to tell: her family's table, her artisan friends, the country she helped make visible.

An episode to shape together. The frame is a filmed conversation in Kosovo, ideally near Sunny Hill. Where it goes from there, and on what terms, we'd love to figure out with her team.

A recognition: Kosovo is rebuilding its identity from the soil up. A conversation about what that looks like from the inside, and how the world can be part of it.

An Invitation

For the musician for whom place and practice aren't incidental. This is the conversation where that story gets to be the subject. On your own ground, in your own words, with someone who has acted as translator and guide to these ideas for thirty years.
